Lavenderfield Quilt Design

Let me introduce myself,  I am Renette Opperman and I am a South African.  I am married to Danie, who is a farmer and we are blessed to call two of the most beautiful regions of our country home. 

We farm with cattle in the northern rural part of South Africa,  the bushveldt. Our farm is near the busy holiday town of Bela bela  at the foot of the Waterberg mountain range. During summer the visitors flock to the several hot water springs in the vicinity and during the mild winters the nature reserves and hunting are very popular. Our farm is in an area teeming with birdlife and is one of the most popular birding sites in the country.

We also farm with sheep in the Kalahari, a hot, arid semi-desert in the northwestern part of the country. A harsh but beautful region.

I am a mom wth two grownup, married children and granny to three grandchildren, my pride and joy! I practiced dentistry in Bela bela for 18 years while the kids went to school there I  " retired" eight years ago to be free to travel with Danie to the Kalahari as well as to pursue my other passion, patchwork and quilting.

I have been quilting for nearly twenty years so it has been easy to switch hats from dentistry to a quilt designer. Years ago I became frustrated not finding the patterns that I was looking for and started to design my own.I first published in local and overseas magazines but lately has been selling online. I am the creator behind LavenderFieldQuiltDesigns and am inspired by the world I live in, i.e., the church in the Little Village can be found in Bela Bela, Benji the dog is my own little rescue, Liela. Most of the Woodland animals and babies can be found near my homes. 

My designs are mostly applique and paper piecing. Both are a breeze since I have been working with mirror images nearly all my life!

Every design has been made and tested by me before being made available and all the images are of real quilts. No AI has been used anywhere. My downloadable patterns contains everything needed to create your own masterpiece: clear simple diagrams and consise step by step instructions as well as tips on how to enhance your techniques. Every pattern is also graded as to difficulty level. I can also be contacted should any any problem arise but if you have half as much fun making it that I had in producing it everything should be perfect. Enjoy!
