Julia was born in the US, and spent 8 years growing up in Hong Kong when it was a British colony. A neighbor taught her to sew and the short walk to Hong Kong’s “Fabric Alley” made garment sewing an easy place to start. After getting degrees in education and computer science, Julia worked as a teacher & software engineer, but always dreamed of sewing instead. She filled her nights and time off with sewing.

The meticulous notes from her sewing projects made it easy to make projects a second time. Her teaching & technical writing experience helped structure her notes. After numerous queries about which pattern she was using, Julia found a willing partner and was ready to publish her own patterns. She works with a co-editor who proofreads & creates test samples, improving the pattern repeatedly, until the pattern is ready to publish.
