A few years ago I began hand piecing jewel shapes together as one might make a Grandmothers Flower Garden quilt. When I had made 30 or more flowers, I decided I would appliqué them on top of a pieced background for a quilt. The first background I made was deep blues and too dark and the flowers didn’t show up. So I designed a lighter background, but when it was sewn I liked it as it was. The flowers were too much. Several designs later I finally made one which I liked with my flowers. This background is fairly easy to piece together, and you can either appliqué the flowers by hand or machine.
